Tell us a bit about how you started The Laser Cutting Studio

The Laser Cutting Studio was started by Emma C back in 2017 and it was hatched from the idea of wanting to create something of her own from scratch. After LOTS of research and even more procrastinating (I'm a Virgo so there was way too much procrastinating) I took the plunge and started this little business. I loved the idea of working with local couples and businesses to create unique one of a kind pieces. In 2018 one Emma became two and the business partnership of Emma Cops and Emma Horkings came to life. Having known each other and worked together for over 10 years, it was a no-brainer to join forces and build up what had already been created.    

How many staff are there in your team, and what are your roles?

We have 2 'official' staff members - co-owners Emma Cops & Emma Horkings. Between the two of us we do everything to operate the business from quotes to design to accounts.

Emma C mostly handles customer enquiries, stock ordering, running the machine and loves getting her hands dirty working in the woodwork room creating new pieces.

Emma H mostly handles the website, developing & photographing new products, social media and the graphic design of client jobs.

Being a tiny business we are very lucky to have wonderful family members who are happy to lend a helping hand when needed.

 

Tell us a bit more about the graphic design side of the business
Emma C has graphic design skills she has picked up over the years, and Emma H is a qualified Graphic Designer, who has worked in Geelong for 14 years. We have the knowledge and skills to work with our clients on a wide range of custom requests.

I hear you do neons these days! Tell us a bit about them.

Our neon signs are of high standard and are competitively priced. We decided to offer neon signs so that our couples have all of their signage options from the one supplier. Couples can have their names up in lights, which is also a cool feature to have at home after the wedding! You can find more information on our neons on our website!

What is the general lead time you need for custom laser cut items?

Ideally we like to have 3-4 weeks to create items for our couples but understand that this is not always possible. We always work around what the client needs.

What are some of the items that are most popular for weddings?

Some of our best sellers are our Wishing well boxes, welcome signs, ring boxes, table numbers, guest names and menus. But we love it when couples come to us with unique items that is not the normal items you would see at every wedding.

What are some of the epic custom items you’ve made for weddings that is something completely out of the ordinary?

Emma C might be a bit biased here, but one of the most unique epic items she has ever created was her own wedding invitation. It was a timber spinning wheel design invitation that you would have to turn to reveal the information under each section of the wheel.

Are your clients limited to laser engraved/cut items for their wedding?
No, we are both experts in print and can provide printed signage if the couple prefers. We love making couples' ideas come to life.

What makes The Laser Cutting Studio stand out from the crowd?
We pride ourselves on great advice, quality products and down to earth customer service. It makes no difference to us if you are ordering 1 cake topper or an entire wedding signage package, you will get treated exactly the same and get amazing service from us both. The feedback we repeatedly receive from our couples is that we make the process very easy and not stressful - which we think is paramount when organising your big day! 

 

Are there any discounts you offer your couples?  
Aside from our already reasonably priced items, we offer a wedding 'package discount' for couples that order four or more items for their wedding.

Is there somewhere clients can come and see your work?  
We are currently an online only business so we do not have a physical shopfront. We are happy to meet with couples to show them colour swatches and material samples, as this is a great way to confirm the look and feel of their wedding. The best place to see samples of our wedding work in person is at the Geelong Wedding Guide Expo!
